The Texas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists’ Executive Committee members voted a new title for Byron Corbett, Director for Evangelism & Sabbath School, effective Nov. 1, 2024, during its meeting held Thursday, Oct. 24, 2024. Corbett previously served as an evangelist for the Texas Conference. In that role, he held evangelism meetings throughout Texas. As the Texas Conference administration realigns staffing roles, Corbett will, under this new title, provide resources to train 350 Bible workers in Texas.
“We are pleased to have Pastor Corbett serve as director for this important area,” Texas Conference President Elton DeMoraes shared. “Evangelism and Sabbath School are the heart and pulse of the church. We want our Sabbath Schools to be small groups that study together and be deployed for mission.”
Corbett served as a senior evangelist for Amazing Facts from 2000 to 2007 conducting five evangelistic series per year. He also taught classes in doctrine, public evangelism and decision-getting for the Amazing Facts Center of Evangelism. From 2004 through 2016, he was a regular instructor for the North American Division Evangelism Institute Field School of Public Evangelism at the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, Mich.
Beginning in 1992, he held pastoral positions in the Washington, Upper Columbia and Kentucky-Tennessee Conferences before coming to the Texas Conference in 2015 to serve as associate and then senior pastor at the Richardson Seventh-day Adventist Church in Richardson, Texas. In 2022, he became an evangelist for the Texas Conference.
Corbett has a bachelor’s degree in theology (1992) from Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tenn. and a Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry from the Seventh-day Adventist Theological Seminary at Andrews University (2022). He is currently working on his Doctor of Missiology also from Andrews University.
“Pastor Corbett is passionate about reaching people with the grace of Jesus Christ and the three angels’ messages, so people are ready for His soon return,” DeMoraes added. “Together As One, we can finish this work.”
The president reported that this change is budget-neutral and part of a conference realignment to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
